We formed “A Better Town” because that is precisely what we need in Islamorada.

We the people of Islamorada have the power to create a better town and protect our quality of life! Our power is in our ideas for our future.

The Village of Islamorada is in the process of updating its comprehensive plan, starting with several public events seeking our input from March 24-28, 2025.

For us to enjoy a better town, we the people must show up and be heard! Hope to see you soon!

able.city is asking Islamorada residents to take this survey to help guide the comprehensive plan process.

A better town.

Islamorada hasn’t updated its comprehensive plan in over two decades.

This document is vital for our future and a better town because it will serve as the guide for our village staff and council going forward.

And what we need for a better town can be already found on page one of the last comprehensive plan:

“… the Village incorporated to create a Comprehensive Plan to reclaim the Keys by conserving, preserving, and retaining our remarkable assets—our waters and natural environment—and our quality of life…

“... the Village is and must continue to be synonymous with sport fishing, diving, the Everglades National Park, the living coral reef…

“… the Comprehensive Plan must further understanding of the ecological limits of our Keys and prohibit any further degradation of our natural resources by incompatible land and marine activities…

“... the Comprehensive Plan must describe public and private actions needed to protect and retain the Village's waterways and natural resources comprising our unique ecosystem as well as preserve the quiet solitude of the backcountry…”

Our voices must be heard so we can enjoy a better town

And we must insist — by showing up and speaking out — that our comprehensive plan focuses on “conserving, preserving, and retaining our remarkable assets—our waters and natural environment—and our quality of life.”
